The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN), through the Ilocos Norte Tourism (INTO), decked the arid landscape of Ilocos Norte Sand Dunes in Paoay with the re-run of the “Himala sa Buhangin!” Arts and Music Festival to celebrate the new Cebu-Laoag flight in partnership with Philippine Airlines (PAL) on December 15.

“Himala!” which features a new artwork every installment and other fun-packed activities is regarded as the pioneering event for Philippine film tourism, paying tribute to classic films like “Himala,” (1981), “Ang Panday,” (1980), and “Temptation Island” (1980, 2011).

Among the festival’s highlights is the unveiling of ‘Lura ng Buhangin’ which was designed by Architect Allan Sonajo. This newly erected installation was crafted intricately from repurposed stainless steel scrap—standing tall at approximately 8 meters, the mythical fish reaching 3 meters in height, and the sprawling school of fish spanning 9 diameters. Moreover, local entrepreneurs showcased their crafts and creations in the “mini Himala sa Buhangin!” providing visitors with an array of Iloko products.

Meanwhile, local performers such as “Mattilda,” “Break The Code,” and “Magrus” took the center stage with their versions of local and international hits, including performances featuring their own song compositions.

Cebu-based influencers Ms.Kathleen Hermosa, Mr. Miko Santos, Ms. Trisha Fabe, and Ms. Aicy Fabe, among others were the VIPs who graced the “mini Himala sa Buhangin!”

Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc shared his aspiration during his speech, saying: “Our main goal for tonight’s event is to really give our local musicians, our local artists, [our local entrepreneurs] a chance to shine.”

He urged the Ilokano community to continue supporting Ilokano talents and artists, emphasizing that they don’t only deserve to be recognized in the country but in the whole world.

“Zoom IN” awarding, Fire and LED dance performance by Alab Poi Dancers, fireworks display, and foam party were also some of the highlights of the festival.
