Twenty-three (23) modern Ilokanas showcased exquisite works of Ilokano fashion designers in the Preliminary Competition of the 2023 Miss Ilocos Norte at Currimao Sea Wall, last night.

In this year’s edition, the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte, through the Provincial Tourism Office, collaborated anew with 50 Ilocos Norte-based fashion designers who are increasingly embracing sustainable practices, ensuring their designs contribute to a greener future for the province.

With a fusion of traditional elements and contemporary aesthetics, the designers created garments that celebrate the province's rich heritage while captivating the modern fashion scene.

Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc acknowledges the exceptional talent and creativity of Ilokano designers by featuring them in the pageant. He believes in showcasing their unique perspectives, innovative designs, and meticulous craftsmanship to a broader audience. He also assured them that their “passion has a place here in Ilocos Norte.”

By recognizing and celebrating their creative excellence, over the years he bolstered local fashion and enlivened Ilocos Norte’s artistic expression and creative industries.

The candidates walked down the runway and flaunted their attires in the Inabel Fashion, Balintawak, and Terno categories. They also had an in-depth interview before the competition to gauge both their intelligence and eloquence.

Meanwhile, the candidates officially debuted at the competition at the swimwear and talent segment at Imelda Cultural Center, City of Batac last May 8.

“I thank the Provincial Government for keeping an eye on who will be our representative for Miss Universe or Miss World, so that we may see the beauty of the people of Ilocos Norte in national pageants,” Board Member Medeldorf Gaoat, Chair of Committee of Tourism, remarked during the preliminary competition.

“Miss Ilocos Norte is the final activity of the Provincial Fiesta. It is our way to give the outstanding and deserving Ilocana a privilege of being the provincial ambassadress on youth affairs, education, tourism, and environmental conservation, among others,” remarked Mx. Aian Raquel, head of the Ilocos Norte Tourism Office.

They also expressed their gratitude to the Municipality of Currimao hosting the preliminary round of Miss Ilocos Norte 2023 in their town.

The young Ilokanas will vie for the title of Miss Ilocos Norte 2023 during the finals night at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena, Laoag City, tomorrow.
