Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc attended the Opening Ceremony of the Little League Philippine Series (LLPS) 2024-North Luzon Regional Championships at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena, on February 21.

The games will be held from February 22 to 25 and February 29 to March 3 at the Ferdinand E. Marcos Memorial Stadium where 11 teams from all over Norther Luzon will compete in a series of Baseball and Softball matches to determine which team will represent the region in the National Championships.

The Little League Series is a non-profit organization promoting, developing, and supervising softball and baseball players, founded in 1939 in the United States of America.

It aims to provide the youth with an outlet of healthy activity and training under great supervision while helping them develop manners to become good citizens.

According to their website, this competition not only celebrates athletic excellence but also promotes values such as teamwork, perseverance, inclusivity, and fair play among the participants.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Governor Marcos Manotoc assured neutrality and fairness of the games, stating:

“We promise that our sports department and technical officials will be fair in officiating the games because we want to make sure that ang ating hosting ay talagang fair sa lahat ng participants and in the spirit of sportsmanship.”

His continuous support for sports and his dedication to promoting excellence in athletics have been instrumental in forwarding Ilocos Norte’s bid as an emerging “Sports Hub of Northern Luzon.”

Under Gov. Marcos Manotoc’s leadership, the Province of Ilocos Norte hosted the National Basketball Training Center-North Luzon Regionals and the Ilocos Norte District Athletic Association earlier this year. Previously, Ilocos Norte was also the host to various sports events, including the Philippine Kiteboarding Competition, the Philippine National Beach Volleyball Bubble Training, and Dragon Boat Festival Races.
